APA Group, formerly Australian Pipeline Trust Limited, was formed to focus on investments in gas transmission infrastructure. It owns, or has an interest in, over 7,500 kilometers of gas transmission pipelines in Australia, particularly in New South Wales, Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia. Its transports close to 25% of Australia's natural gas consumption through this network of pipelines, which comprise a mix of mature, established pipelines and more recently completed greenfield pipelines. The Company earns revenue by selling transportation and related services to the producers, consumers and aggregators of gas. The majority of this revenue is derived from contracts that provide for payment regardless of throughput. In February 2007, the Company acquired the DirectLink electricity transmission assets linking the New South Wales and Queensland power grids. In July 2007, the Company completed the acquisition of the Origin Energy Networks assets.
