Biota Holdings Limited is an antiviral drug development company, based in Melbourne. The Company is engaged in drug discovery and clinical development of antivirals, suitable for human use and its commercialization. Biota Holdings Limited developed the first-inclass neuraminidase inhibitor, zanamivir, and subsequently marketed by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) as Relenza. The Company has two prime products: Relenza, an influenza drug, and FLU OIA, a flu optical immunoassay for the rapid detection of influenza A and B. The Company's research also focuses on the new disease targets, including the common cold, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis C infection and inflammatory disease.
