Fortescue Metals Group Ltd and its subsidiaries (Fortescue) were principally engaged in the development of the Pilbara Iron Ore and Infrastructure Project during the fiscal year ended June 30, 2006 (fiscal 2006). The resources aspect of the Project involves the mining, processing and marketing of iron ore. Fortescue's wholly owned tenements are held by subsidiary companies. It also holds 50% of the issued capital of Pilbara Iron Ore Pty Ltd, a joint venture company that holds the Mindy Mindy tenements. The Project incorporates significant iron ore mineralization across more than 200 kilometers of the Chichester Range. Major deposits have been identified at Mount Nicholas, Mount Lewin, The Hammer, Christmas Creek, Cloud Break and White Knight. Fortescue also focuses on designing, financing and construction of rail and port facilities to support the development and sale of the Pilbara's stranded iron ore bodies.
