Woolworths Limited is an Australian retail company made up of a number of businesses. The Company operates approximately 3,000 stores, petrol sites and hotels in Australia and New Zealand, and is involved in a consumer electronics joint retail venture with the Tata Group in India. Its principal brands include Woolworths, Safeway, Caltex/Woolworths Petrol, Dick Smith Electronics, PowerHouse, Tandy, BWS, Dan Murphy's, BIG W, Foodtown (New Zealand), Countdown (New Zealand) and Woolworths (New Zealand). Woolworths Limited operates in five business segments: Supermarkets, BIG W, Consumer Electronics, Hotels and Wholesale. During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2006 (fiscal 2006), nine BIG W stores were opened (1H06: three stores and 2H06: six stores), taking the total number of stores in the division to 129. During fiscal 2006, the Company acquired Foodland Limited's New Zealand business (Progressive) plus 20 Australian ex-FAL stores.
